Qonto · France and Germany
Built from what business owners said about Qonto when nobody was asking them, in each market's own language and its own communities.
A public sample, not commissioned by Qonto and not affiliated with it. Everything here comes from public sources, quoted as written, with a link at each quote. Qonto was chosen because it sells the same product across several European markets, which is what this is meant to demonstrate. There is plenty of praise in the corpus as well as criticism, and both are shown.
What to change
A recommendation for something a company already does well ends the credibility of everything else on the page. So each action below carries what qonto.com says today, verified 5 August 2026. Three candidate actions were cut on that check, and they are listed at the end.
Creditworthiness screening is a named, searched barrier in Germany with no French equivalent: 1,600 searches a month for Geschäftskonto ohne Schufa. Whatever the answer is, silence reads as a no.
Today: Schufa appears nowhere on qonto.com/de. Gap: missing.
Evidence: search demand, Google Ads Germany, 1,600/mo · the German page as it stands ↗
The French objection is not price or features, it is the absence of an interlocuteur. Owners describe keeping a second bank with branches purely so there is somewhere to go and complain. A support promise does not touch that. A named route, an owner and a timeline does.
Today: the page offers "Support 7j/7, 24h/24 par chat, email et téléphone" and an AI assistant. No named escalation route, no owner, no timeline. Gap: missing, and it is the generic promise the threads specifically reject.
Evidence: "une banque sans interlocuteur direct/dédié" ↗ · keeping a branch bank to complain in person ↗ · the thread ↗ · the French page ↗
The DATEV argument is won. The gap is the German business that does its own books in Lexoffice or Lexware rather than handing everything to a tax adviser. That is a different buyer with a different tool, and the peer threads show Qonto losing them at the tariff line rather than at the product.
Today: DATEV is everywhere on qonto.com/de. Lexoffice and Lexware are not mentioned at all. Gap: missing, inside a topic that otherwise looks covered.
France has a legally created trigger Germany does not: depositing share capital to register a company. 480 searches a month at €85.50 cost per click, the most valuable term in the French set. There is a second, unmarketed trigger behind it: the micro-entrepreneur who does not need a business account at first, but needs a dedicated one after two years.
Today: "Création d'entreprise" is in the French headline, but dépôt de capital sits in navigation rather than being a page's job. Gap: partial, so this is a deepen rather than an add.
Evidence: the two-year rule, stated by a peer ↗ · search demand: dépôt de capital 480/mo at €85.50 CPC · the French page ↗
Cut on the site check
Three candidate actions came out of the audience research and died when I looked at the live site. They are listed because the check is part of the work, and because knowing what is already right is worth as much as knowing what is missing.
The split
The clearest finding in this sample is not a difference in what people want. It is a difference in what they reach for when it goes wrong.
France
“C'est une des premières règles du business quand la boîte tourne correctement : ne JAMAIS avoir une seule banque, et de préférence avoir au moins une banque avec des agences physiques où tu peux te rendre pour râler tant que la situation est bloquée.”
Never have only one bank, and preferably keep one with physical branches you can walk into and complain at while the situation is stuck.
Germany
“Support ist unterirdisch. E-Mail bekommst irgendwelche Standard Antworten selbst wenn dem Datenschutzbeauftragten schreibst und dann Reklamation reagieren Sie tagelang nicht.”
Support is abysmal. You get standard replies even when you write to the data protection officer, and then file a formal complaint, and they do not respond for days.
A French owner escalates to a person. A German owner escalates to a process. Same frozen account, same anger, two different pages needed to answer it.
Segments
France
Germany
Both segments are observed, not validated. Validating them needs Qonto's own conversion and churn data, which a public sample does not have. That is stated rather than hidden, and it is the honest limit of external signal.
Demand
| Signal | France | Germany |
|---|---|---|
| Brand searches for Qonto | 301,000 / mo | 40,500 / mo |
| Explicit comparison intent | no equivalent found | Geschäftskonto Vergleich 5,400 |
| Creditworthiness gate | none | Geschäftskonto ohne Schufa 1,600 |
| Legal trigger event | dépôt de capital 480, €85.50 CPC | none found |
| Named local rivals | Shine 74,000 | Kontist 5,400 · Holvi 2,900 |
Google Ads volumes, pulled 5 August 2026. Qonto is roughly seven times more searched in France than in Germany, so it is close to being the category in one market and a challenger in the other. Germany comparison-shops explicitly and screens on Schufa; France has a legally created moment that Germany does not.
The other side
A sample that only showed the complaints would be a hit piece, and it would also be wrong. The same threads carry this:
“Personnellement j'ai utilisé Qonto pendant de longues années en tant qu'indépendant, j'ai jamais eu le moindre soucis. Leur service client est super réactif par tchat.”
“Bisher war ich mit der Funktionalität äußerst zufrieden. Die Weboberfläche ist durchdacht, Buchhaltungstools sind komfortabel und praktisch.”
r/selbststaendig, from the warning thread itself ↗
The German warning post opens with praise for the product before describing the freeze. That is worth noticing: the complaint is almost never about the software. It is about what happens when something goes wrong.
Coverage
| Source | France | Germany | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Peer community | rich | rich | r/vosfinances and r/EntreprendreenFrance; r/selbststaendig. Both carry recent, high-engagement threads |
| Search demand | rich | rich | Head terms, trigger events and rival brands all measurable |
| Review platforms | not used | not used | Qonto sits at 4.8 across 58,000 invitation-gated reviews. Ratings at that shape do not discriminate, so they were deliberately left out rather than used as filler |
| App store reviews | not reached | not reached | 62,000 reviews exist and would likely be rich. A real engagement would include them |
| Local forums | not reached | not reached | French and German entrepreneur forums outside Reddit were not swept |
| First-party data | none | none | No conversion, churn or support data. Every finding here is observed, not validated against outcomes |
This is a demonstration built in a bounded window, not a full engagement. A paid version closes the three unreached rows and validates against the client's own data. Showing the gaps is the point: research that displays only its strong parts is asking you to trust what you cannot see.
Actions first, evidence one click behind, and an honest account of what the research could not reach. Built from your website, in your market, in under an hour.
